Ruth's Renewal was born from something far deeper than an idea — it was born from a calling. There was a time when we stood face-to-face with the pain of mothers who loved their babies deeply but had lost their way. We saw women battling addiction, shame, and despair… and we saw newborns beginning life already separated from the one person whose touch was meant to comfort them most.
We couldn't look away.
In those moments of heartbreak, God whispered a purpose into our hearts — a vision of healing, grace, and second chances. We felt Him urging us to create a place where mothers and babies could heal together… where faith could rebuild what addiction had torn apart, and where no woman would ever again have to face her pain alone.
That's how Ruth's Renewal began — not as a program, but as a promise.
Why we do what we do
We believe separation is not the solution — love is.
Every day, countless mothers across our communities give birth in hospitals while struggling with addiction. Too often, those babies are taken from their arms before they've even had the chance to bond — before either one can begin to heal.
At Ruth's Renewal, our programs are built on faith and proven science — grounded in Attachment Theory, Trauma-Informed Care, and our "Mom as Medicine" approach — which remind us that when a mother and child stay together, both heal faster and more completely.

Through faith, compassion, and structure, we walk beside these mothers as they rediscover their worth and rebuild their lives — whether they're just beginning their healing journey in our Restoration House or preparing for independence in Esther's Endurance Home of Hope.
Every woman is reminded that her story is not over — and her past does not define her.

This mission did not begin in a classroom.
Ruth's Renewal was never meant to be just another nonprofit. It was born from a conviction that some of the most vulnerable babies in our communities deserve more than survival — they deserve the chance to build a healthy, secure attachment with the person who brought them into the world.
My name is Caitlin Adams, and I am the founder of Ruth's Renewal.
I have dedicated my education and my life's work to understanding how a child's earliest experiences shape who they become. I hold an Associate's Degree in Child Development and am continuing my education in Psychology with the goal of specializing in infant mental health and early childhood trauma.
But this mission did not begin in a classroom.
What happens to a baby when the very first relationship they're meant to depend on is interrupted?
As I studied attachment, brain development, trauma, and the lifelong effects of early adversity, I realized something that changed me forever. The first months of life are not simply a stage of development — they are the foundation for everything that follows. A baby's brain is being built through connection. Through being held. Through eye contact. Through responsive caregiving. Those moments literally shape the architecture of the developing brain.
When mothers struggle with substance use, our system often focuses on separating them from their children rather than helping them heal together. While there are certainly situations where separation is necessary for safety, there are also countless mothers who desperately want recovery and desperately love their babies. Recovery should not automatically require losing the very relationship that can become one of the greatest motivations for healing.
That is why Ruth's Renewal exists.
We believe that when it is safe and appropriate, mothers and infants deserve the opportunity to heal together. We believe recovery should address not only addiction, but attachment. Not only sobriety, but relationships. Not only surviving, but creating a future where both mother and child can thrive.
This mission is deeply personal to me because I have seen how often the needs of infants are overlooked. Babies cannot tell us what trauma feels like, but neuroscience can. Their brains tell the story long before they ever have words.
Every child deserves the opportunity to develop secure attachment. Every mother deserves access to compassionate, evidence-based support that recognizes healing is possible. And every community benefits when we invest in families before trauma becomes generational.
Ruth's Renewal is more than a program. It is a vision for a future where we stop asking, “How do we separate this family?” and begin asking, “How do we help this family heal?”

Meet Alex
Compassion, stability, and the fight for whole families.
Alex Adams is the Co-Founder of Ruth's Renewal and serves as an advocate for strengthening families through compassion, stability, and restoration.
While Ruth's Renewal is deeply rooted in the science of infant mental health and early childhood development, Alex brings another equally important perspective to the mission—the importance of strong families, healthy fatherhood, and a community willing to walk alongside parents during their hardest seasons.
Alex believes that lasting change doesn't happen simply by helping someone overcome addiction. It happens when people are given hope, accountability, practical support, and the opportunity to rebuild the relationships that matter most.
His passion is helping create a culture where families are not defined by their worst mistakes, but by the possibility of redemption and healing. He believes every parent deserves the chance to become the person their child needs, and every child deserves adults who are committed to protecting, nurturing, and investing in their future.
As Co-Founder, Alex helps shape the vision and long-term growth of Ruth's Renewal while supporting community partnerships, outreach, and organizational development. He is passionate about building programs that are grounded in both compassion and responsibility—programs that meet families where they are while encouraging them toward lasting transformation.
Together, Alex and Caitlin founded Ruth's Renewal with a shared belief that healing is most powerful when families are given the opportunity to heal together. Their vision is to create a place where mothers can recover, infants can develop secure attachments, and families can begin writing a new story—one built on hope, resilience, and love.
