Play · 4 min read

Play is the work of childhood

When a child plays, they are practicing being human. They are rehearsing relationship, testing cause and effect, and quietly telling us who they are.

Follow, don't lead

Child-led play — where the adult joins the child's world rather than directing it — is one of the most well-supported interventions in child development. It teaches the child that their inner world matters.

Takeaways

  • ·Ten minutes of undirected play per day is a powerful practice.
  • ·The best toys have no batteries.

Reflection

  • "When was the last time you played with a child on their terms?"
